My kosher cookbook collection has grown over the years. I’m no longer exclusively committed to the Spice & Spirit Cookbook. Don’t get me wrong, the good ole purple cookbook has served me well through the years but there are so many new specialty kosher cookbooks which have won me over.
The Best of Mexican Kosher Cooking by Shifrah Devorah Witt and Zipporah Malka Heller is an excellent case in point. After the success of The New Asian Kosher Cookbook, Winning Recipes of Authentic Asian Cuisine, the mother daughter duo, Shifrah Devorah Witt and Zipporah Malka Heller, have done it again. This time they take us along on a “voyage” of kosher Mexican cooking.
The book is filled with authentic Mexican recipes. Whether your family has already enjoyed the tastes of Mexican cuisine or if you have yet to try it this cookbook will serve you well. Personally, my family’s favorite dinners are Mexican. Somehow serving burritos or tacos puts a smile on everyone’s face – an instant fiesta!
I tested some recipes from the book to expand my personal Mexican cooking repertoire and the results were great:
Squash and Red Bean Soup is a hearty soup with Mexican flavor.
Cheese Enchiladas with the addition of Refried Beans were delish.
Mexican Iced Coffee was a huge hit. The kids asked for it again the next night.
The next time I opt for a Mexican dinner I hope to try the recipes for 7-Layer Bean Dip and Baja Fish Tacos.
I may be partial to melted cheese, but the cookbook also features fish, chicken, and meat dishes all with characteristic Mexican spices and flavor.
The cookbook is sold for $24.95 and features over 90 authentic Mexican recipes. To purchase a copy click here.
Are you daring enough to try home cooked Mexican fare? Leave a comment stating your favorite Mexican dish or one you’d like to try and you can win a copy of The Best of Mexican Kosher Cooking by Shifrah Devorah Witt and Zipporah Malka Heller.

Good Luck!

I’d love to find a good recipe for an authentic Mexican fajita!
My favorite has to be Mexican lasagna, made without the meat. There is so much other flavorful ingredients no one misses it: http://ohyoucook.blogspot.com/2010/11/mexican-lasagna.html

Relatively new to Mexican cooking so I would want to try and make cheese enchiladas!
I would love to learn how to make pico de gallo, guacamole, or the squash & red bean soup you mentioned! I am a huge vegetable fanatic & the mexican food I get around here usually lacks in the veg department & merely focuses on the meat & heavy cheese (so wrong in more than one way!
)
please pick me to win! i havent had a new cookbook in so long and would love a unique mexican one!
I am a confirmed pepperhead, and I make my own pico de gallo with home grown habeneros. I can’t wait to see this cookbook, and learn much more about Mexican cuisine. Perhaps learn how to use Mexican chocolate (I’m a chocoholic too)
my family would love this.
Having tasted Shifra Devorah’s cooking, I have confidence that this is a collection of treasured recipes and dishes. I would love to get my hands on a copy of this book – mexican cooking is an area I haven’t ventured in to much.
Growing up in So. California, I love Mexican food! Hope I win!
My family loves tomatillo chicken: green tomatoes sauce cooked with potatoes and chicken cutlers. We also have guacamole every erev shabbos with our challah. I would love to learn how to make more mexican dishes and could really use this cookbook!
Mexican iced coffee sounds so interesting! Would love to try it!
I love cook books and would like to add this to my collection! My family enjoys Mexican food!
I haven’t had much mexican food in my life but would definitely love to try it! A mexican dish I’d love to try is chicken burritos.
I love the flavors of Mexico…cumin, peppers, oregano…all go great with meat or milk. I would love to try these recipes and add the book to my collection.
So excited to see a kosher mexican cookbook! There are just so many substitues you feel comfortable with & now we won’t need to worry about the subsitutes anymore! Kudos!
Sounds great!! Looking forward to trying out these recipes!!
I love enchiladas, and I would love to win this cookbook and try out new recipes!
Would LOVE some new Mexican ideas!
I love Mexican food and spices. My favorite, special thing to make is my great-grandmother’s tamale recipe. I love cookbooks, love this kind of food and would love to try some new recipes!
I’m torn between cheese enchiladas and Mexican coffee. Made (& posted on my blog) several Mexican recipes already, but on the lookout for others that don’t need to be altered to make kosher.
