Astronomy is fascinating for adults and perhaps even more so for children who enjoy an unlimited imagination.

Artscroll Youth Series has just released a new book, Let’s Go… to the Sun and the Moon – A guided tour of Hashem’s universe, by Nachman Zakon, that offers children a glimpse into the amazing cosmos through the lens of our holy Torah.

This 64-page full-color book, which includes a large selection of amazing pictures including some illustrations by Marc Lumer, is divided into two parts, “Let’s go… to the Sun” and “Let’s go… to the Moon”.

In Let’s Go… to the Sun and Moon readers will learn many intriguing facts about the sun and moon. But what makes this book especially unique is its inclusion of information and interesting stories about the sun and moon as are mentioned throughout the Torah.

The book contains explanations about the references to the sun and moon in our prayers and Tehilim (Psalms), the mitzvos associated with the sun and moon, such as Birchas HaChamah (blessing of the sun that is recited once every 28 years), Kiddush Levana (monthly blessing of the moon), Rosh Chodesh and the makeup of the Hebrew calendar, all of which will take on a whole new meaning for children after reading the book.

The book also includes explanations about important everyday Halachic (Jewish law) concepts such as Neitz HaChamah (sunrise) and Shkia (sunset).

Throughout the book are small sections containing Fascinating Facts, Did You Know and Q&A which are sure to satisfy the little curious minds in your family.

Publisher’s Description:
Have you ever wondered what’s going on in the sky above you?

In Let’s Go… to the Sun and Moon, you will get a guided tour of two of Hashem’s most amazing creations. And you’ll fly – on hot air balloons, old fashioned airplanes, and a spaceship that actually reached the moon! I am so excited for this book. My son is obsessed with outer space. He wants this book very badly! I think a new book could be about how the human body works, making sure to have it from a Jewish perspective.

    Thanks for this contest!!!!

book idea: about fire. how fires work and spread. dangers of fire, fire safety, fire’s place in yiddishkeit (havdallah, neiros shabbos/yom tov, yortzeit, wedding) and significance…. etc.

My idea would be to write a book about taking care of your teeth! Oral health is so important, establishing good habits from the start that will continue on into adulthood! Of course it would have to be written in a fun way ;)
