Thanks to Rivki Savitsky of Brooklyn, NY for sharing this recipe adapted from The Food Network.

Ingredients:

Topping-
5 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Dough-
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Mix sugar and cinnamon for the topping and set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  3. To make the cookie dough, stir together the dry ingredients. Cream the margarine with the sugar and continue to mix, then add the eggs 1 at a time, corn syrup, and vanilla, and mix thoroughly. Add the dry ingredients and mix until blended. If the dough is sticky you can chill it before forming the cookies.
  4. Make walnut size balls of dough then roll them in the cinnamon sugar to coat. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet 2 1/2 inches apart. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until puffed up and the surface is slightly cracked. Let cool slightly in pan before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

Yields 40 cookies.

I have made these cookies twice and they keep burning on the bottom before they are done on top. Any suggestions?

Lauren, maybe adjust your oven and try starting with a cooler oven and a ‘silver colored’ cookie sheet rather than a darker one. We’ve made these cookies 100s of times and never had that problem. Hope you have better luck!
