Juice Pouch Gelt Purse
November 11th, 2010 PrintUpcycling household trash into useful objects… Miraculous. Transforming empty drink pouches into simple gelt purses… A “priceless” craft to celebrate the miracle of Chanukah.
Show off the packaging to be eco-chic or hide it for a perfect shiny background for Chanukah embellishments.
Scissors
Two foil drink pouches
Hole puncher
18” long narrow ribbon
Tape
Tacky glue
Self-adhesive Velcro dots
Instructions:
- For each purse, use scissors to cut the bottoms from two foil drink pouches.
- Trim each to create a curve as shown. Wash out the pouches and let them dry.
- Cut the top 1 1/4 inch from one pouch. Place the pouches together, aligning them at their curved bases.
- Use a hole punch to make holes around the bottom and sides. (The spaces between our holes vary from 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch). Tie a length of narrow ribbon (ours is 18 inches) to the first hole. Make a “needle” by rolling up the leading end of the ribbon and wrapping it with tape to stiffen it. Whip stitch around the border, tying off the ribbon at the last hole. Tuck the ribbon ends inside the pouch and secure them with a bit of tacky glue.
- Attach self-adhesive Velcro dots for a closure.
