Bavarian Apple Tart

Ingredients:

For the crust:
1 stick of butter (melted)
1/3 cup of sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour

For the filling:
8 ounces cream cheese (not whipped)
1 egg
1/4 cup of sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Top:
2 apples
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

  1. To prepare the crust: Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Mix together the crust ingredients and press into a round tin or Pyrex pie dish.
  3. Bake for 15 minutes.  Cool to room temperature.
  4. To prepare the filling. Blend the filling ingredients and spread onto the cooled pie crust.
  5. Peel and core 2 apples.  Slice apples in half.  Make 1/2 inch even slices that look like crescent moons. Arrange in a single layer around the tart.
  6. In a cup, mix together 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2- 1 tsp. cinnamon.  Sprinkle all over tart. (optional: you can sprinkle 1/4 cup slivered almonds also)
  7. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. The apples should be soft but firm.  Be sure that the apples do not burn.
  8. Serve at room temperature.
