Outer Order Contributes To Inner Calm
March 10th, 2010 PrintThe weeks leading up to Pesach need not be chaotic. Focus on the ultimate goals of removing chometz and preparing for the holiday needs and hopefully when Pesach arrives you can bask in the satisfaction that you’ve fully prepared your family and homes for the holiday.
Instead of trying to get organized, get rid of stuff. We all have items we no longer use (your ten year old’s sippy cup collection) or wish we use but don’t (the size 2 wardrobe you no longer can squeeze into). Do you really need 20 free-giveaway coffee mugs or can you edit your collection to include the nicest bunch? Sentimental items are important but you do not need to keep every piece or artwork your toddler created. Holding on to just a few is enough to capture that period in time. Resist the urge to invest in organizing doodads to store useless things in your home. Don’t waste time and money to create a system to store old clothing, paid bills, magazines or the like. Chances are once you’ve categorized and set them on a shelf you will never retrieve them again. If you hold onto small appliances or electronic equipment that no longer works for more than six months, get rid of them. If you haven’t fixed it until now it’s not going to happen at all.
Enjoy the good, eliminate the unwanted and your closets will thank you!
